Angel (2010)

In Paris everybody knows him as “Mujeron” (the “big woman” in Spanish). But his real name is Angel. Angel is a former boxer from Ecuador, now a transsexual prostitute in France. His mission in life is to support his family back home through prostitution. The time has now come for him to see what his help has achieved over the years. In his first trip home since he left Ecuador, Mujeron is confronted with the harsh reality of his country again and with the ambiguity of the relationship with his beloved family. « ANGEL » is an allegory of a world-wide phenomenon : economic remittances have more impact than the action of international development institutions. By following the fascinating and tragic path of Angel, this documentary will discover the complex and changing reality of Ecuador: the boom in Evangelical churches, the violent homophobia, the poverty and the violence of a country whose burden is largely on the shoulders of its migrants abroad. But, above all,  this film tells the story a touching individual and his solitary fight for justice and acceptance.
